Maple Ridge Eye Care in the Community in 2017
At Maple Ridge Eye Care, we believe in giving back to the community and promoting eye health through regular eye care examinations as well as participating in various community events.
Participating in community activities and events allow our optometrists in Maple Ridge to promote eye health and educate individuals of all ages about various eye diseases. Many eye ailments, including glaucoma, dry eye, macular degeneration and diabetes-related eye diseases, can rob an individual of their sight before they even realize they have an eye problem.
We especially want to reach older adults who may have chronic health problems that could affect their vision. This includes adults with diabetes and high blood pressure, as these individuals are more at risk for slowly losing their vision. Through our community giving and involvement, we maintain a focus on support for healthcare-related causes and look to participate in charities and events that will benefit the people of our community, ensuring we can touch the lives of people we know and who have supported us throughout the years.
Maple Ridge Optometrists: 2017 Community Events
Here is a list of just some of the community events that your Maple Ridge optometrists participated in throughout the course of 2017:
- Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation Gala – Yearly Event
- CNIB – Annual Contributions
- Ridge Meadows Seniors Society – Weekly Health and Wellness Clinics
- Public Education and Speaking – Various Topics, Dates and Times
- Participate in the Eye See … Eye Learn® Kindergarten Vision program
We are honored to be able to participate in the many events, fundraisers, and functions in Maple Ridge. We have proudly supported the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation Gala for the past 12 years with Drs. Hurlbert, Matter, Rughani, office manager Janice and their spouses in attendance this year. For the 2017 gala, we donated a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses to the silent auction and donated an additional $3,000 in ticket sales and auction purchases.
We once again provided an annual donation to help CNIB. This year, our donation of $500 went to the new CNIB Guide Dog Program. For people who are blind or partially sighted, mobility can be a key component of independence. Guide dogs, which are specially bred and trained to provide mobility assistance to people who are blind or partially sighted, are more than just a tool: they act as a partner in independence that can expand the world in a profound way.
Our eye doctor, Dr. Hurlbert, once again volunteered at the Ridge Meadows Seniors Society every Tuesday to answer eye-related health questions from senior citizens, and our eye doctors and staff participated in various public speaking engagements.
We were proud to also continue our participation in the Eye See … Eye Learn® Kindergarten Vision program which provides doctor-delivered eye health exams to kindergarten students in our school district, and when indicated, prescription eyeglasses at no charge.
