Eye Safety 101

Eye Safety 101

Good vision isn't just a matter of finding the right eyewear. At Maple Ridge Eye Care, our optometrists often provide emergency eye care to patients who have ignored eye safety rules and have damaged their eyesight by accident. Keeping your eyes, and those of your family, safe, is a matter of planning ahead no matter where you'll be. Whether you're at work, playing sports or just enjoying leisure activities, eye safety guidelines are something you should follow every day.

Protective Eyeglasses for All Occasions

Whether you wear eyeglasses or contact lenses for vision correction, they can also play an important part in keeping your eyes safe. Our eye doctors can prescribe specialty glasses to protect your eyes, no matter where you are. Some of the wide variety we carry are:

  • Protective eyewear for sports, from surfing to baseball
  • Safety glasses for work
  • Safety goggles for use at home

Sunglasses as Eye Safety

Sunlight is one of the key causes of some of the worst eye damage. It can be a contributing factor in cataracts and macular degeneration, as well as the cause of various temporary conditions such as headaches, blurred vision, and even temporary blindness. The UVA and UVB rays in sunlight cause damage to your eyesight, and they affect you whether it's sunny or cloudy outside. The best protection against UV rays is to wear sunglasses every time you're outside. Our eye doctors can prescribe eyeglasses that block 100 percent of the UV rays in the atmosphere. We can even fit you with sunglasses if you don't need vision correction, and we can turn any frame you like into a stylish pair of sunglasses you'll be glad to wear every day.
